Tamil Nadu to Launch 2 Million Sq Ft IT Park in Coimbatore with Focus on Artificial Intelligence
Chief Minister MK Stalin unveils plans for a cutting-edge IT park, aiming to drive technology growth and generate employment in Tamil Nadu.

Major IT Development Announced in Coimbatore
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced the establishment of a sprawling 2 million square foot IT park in Coimbatore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The announcement, made on Thursday at the Umagine TN 2025 Summit, underscores the state’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and fostering innovation in technology.
The IT park aims to position Coimbatore as a hub for digital services and AI-driven industries. With this development, Tamil Nadu seeks to attract investments, enhance technological capabilities, and provide a platform for talent in the state’s second-largest city.
AI Growth to Boost Employment Opportunities
During the announcement, CM Stalin emphasized that AI is the “next big thing” in the global technology landscape. Addressing concerns about job displacement due to advancements in AI, he reassured that the growth of this technology will create more employment opportunities for the youth.
“The Tamil Nadu IT Minister has assured that the adoption of AI will not reduce jobs but will instead open up new avenues for our workforce. This IT park in Coimbatore will play a pivotal role in ensuring this growth benefits everyone,” Stalin said.
A Legacy of IT Infrastructure Expansion
The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to expand IT infrastructure, tracing the origins of Tamil Nadu’s tech journey back to the establishment of Tidel Park in Chennai during the tenure of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi.
“Karunanidhi brought Tidel Park to Chennai, revolutionizing our approach to information technology. Today, we are taking the next step in digital services, with an eye toward fostering innovation and economic development across Tamil Nadu,” Stalin remarked.
He noted that the new IT park aligns with the state’s vision to decentralize IT development by promoting growth in second and third-tier cities.
Expansion into Tier-Two and Tier-Three Cities
The announcement also shed light on Tamil Nadu’s broader strategy to distribute IT and technology-related developments across the state. Apart from Coimbatore, small-scale IT parks have already been established in cities like Salem, Madurai, Trichy, Hosur, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Villupuram, and Thoothukudi.
“This move ensures inclusive growth, providing opportunities to people in smaller cities and reducing the concentration of tech industries in urban hubs like Chennai,” Stalin said.
Economic and Social Impact of the IT Park
The IT park is expected to attract global and domestic investors, creating a robust ecosystem for businesses focused on AI, machine learning, and other emerging technologies. By partnering with private entities, the government aims to accelerate the pace of development and ensure the park is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
This initiative will also serve as a magnet for tech talent in Tamil Nadu, enabling skilled professionals to find opportunities closer to home. It is anticipated that the IT park will generate direct and indirect employment, fostering economic growth in the region.
Umagine TN 2025 Summit: A Platform for Visionary Projects
The announcement was made at the Umagine TN 2025 Summit, an event focused on exploring opportunities in technology and innovation. Speaking at the summit, CM Stalin expressed optimism about the future of Tamil Nadu’s tech sector and emphasized the importance of such platforms in driving the state’s growth.
“This summit is a reflection of our state’s ambition to lead the way in technology. The IT park in Coimbatore is a significant step toward achieving that goal,” he said.
Looking Ahead
As Tamil Nadu takes strides toward becoming a leader in the IT and AI sectors, the government is focused on ensuring that the benefits of technological advancements are shared equitably. The Coimbatore IT park is expected to play a crucial role in this journey, fostering innovation, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to the state’s overall economic development.
The new IT park, along with the expansion into smaller cities, positions Tamil Nadu as a forward-thinking state ready to embrace the digital future while addressing the needs of its people.
