Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake Strikes Tibet, Tremors Felt in India

An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Tibet near the Nepalese border early this morning, sending tremors across several parts of India, including Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal. The quake, recorded at 6:35 am by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), prompted widespread concern, with people rushing out of their homes and buildings.

The region where the earthquake occurred is geologically active, with the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converging to form the Himalayan mountain range. As a result, earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in this area.

Following the initial tremor, two additional earthquakes were recorded. A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck at 7:02 am at a depth of 10 km, followed by another magnitude 4.9 earthquake at 7:07 am, this time at a depth of 30 km.

Despite the intensity of the tremors felt in areas like Bihar, no immediate reports of significant property damage have been reported. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely for any developments.

This earthquake serves as a reminder of the seismic activity in the region, which is prone to frequent tremors due to the tectonic movements in the Himalayas. The authorities are expected to provide further updates as they assess the situation.
