Delhi Crime Branch Busts Major Bike-Theft Racket; Three Arrested, 50+ Stolen Bikes Recovered

Delhi, February 2 – The Delhi Crime Branch has successfully dismantled a bike-theft racket operating across Delhi-NCR, leading to the arrest of three individuals involved in the illegal trade. The operation, conducted under the leadership of DCP Anil Verma, resulted in the recovery of over 50 stolen motorcycles, many of them high-end models.

The Arrest and Investigation

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Sharma (28), Imran Khan (32), and Ankit Yadav (30). According to the police, Ravi Sharma was the mastermind behind the operation. He, along with his accomplices, targeted premium motorcycles parked in less secure locations, particularly outside shopping malls, metro stations, and residential colonies.

The gang used duplicate keys, lock-breaking tools, and advanced jammers to steal the vehicles within minutes. Once stolen, the bikes were either dismantled and sold in parts or resold in different states with forged registration documents. The racket had been operational for nearly two years, with stolen bikes being transported to states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

How the Gang Was Caught

Police officials received intelligence about an increasing number of bike thefts in the Karol Bagh and Connaught Place areas. A special task force was formed, and after tracking multiple cases, investigators identified a pattern linking the thefts to a well-organized network.

Undercover officers posed as potential buyers and contacted the gang through WhatsApp groups and social media platforms where the stolen bikes were being advertised at significantly lower prices. After confirming the illegal activity, the police set up a trap and arrested the three suspects from a hideout in Rohini, Delhi.

Recovery and Legal Action

During the raid, authorities recovered:

✔ 50+ stolen motorcycles

✔ Fake registration papers and insurance documents

✔ High-tech lock-breaking tools

DCP Anil Verma stated, “This is one of the largest bike-theft operations busted in recent times. The accused were highly organized and used sophisticated methods to alter vehicle identities. More arrests are expected as we continue the investigation.”

The suspects have been booked under sections 379 (theft), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further interrogations are ongoing to trace the remaining members of the gang.
