MCD Rejects Parking Hike Proposal Under GRAP
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has officially rejected a proposal to double parking rates in the city. This plan, part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for pollution control, has been under consideration since June 2024.
Repeated Review of Proposal Since June 2024
The proposal, which aimed to curb vehicular congestion and reduce air pollution, faced opposition and was referred back multiple times for House reconsideration.
Public Relief Amid Cost of Living Concerns
This decision comes as a relief for Delhi residents, who were wary of increased commuter costs. Many civic leaders argued that higher parking fees would burden citizens already facing rising living expenses.
No Change in Existing Parking Fees
As of now, existing parking charges will continue. The MCD has signaled the need for alternative pollution control strategies that are more citizen-friendly.
Future Revisions Possible
Officials have stated that the parking fee hike could be revisited later with modified proposals or alternate solutions under GRAP’s pollution mitigation efforts.
