Tamil Nadu Launches Phase 3 of 'Maaperum Tamil Kanavu' to Benefit 2 Lakh Students

Over 200 colleges and 2 lakh students to be impacted in the third phase of Tamil Nadu’s visionary educational initiative

The Tamil Nadu government has officially launched the third phase of its flagship initiative, ‘Maaperum Tamil Kanavu’, with a goal to positively impact more than 2 lakh students across 200 colleges in the state.

This phase continues the mission to expand academic opportunity, digital empowerment, and skill training for students from diverse economic backgrounds.


🎓 Initiative Highlights

The programme is aimed at bridging gaps in higher education and empowering first-generation learners. With the third phase, the state hopes to make higher education more inclusive, digitally accessible, and career-focused.

Special workshops, internships, career guidance, and digital literacy tools will be rolled out as part of this initiative.


🏫 Institutional Reach

This phase covers over 200 colleges, including both government and aided institutions across urban and rural regions. Each college will have a customized implementation plan based on student needs and institutional capacity.

Officials confirmed that colleges in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli will be among the early adopters.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, while inaugurating the third phase, emphasized the state’s commitment to a knowledge-based economy. He noted that Tamil Nadu continues to lead in educational reform through schemes like Pudhumai Penn, Naan Mudhalvan, and Maaperum Tamil Kanavu.

With this latest rollout, the total number of students covered under Maaperum Tamil Kanavu is expected to exceed 6 lakh since its inception. The government plans to scale up the model with more college partnerships and curriculum upgrades in future phases.
