India Rejects China’s ‘New Counties’ in Ladakh, Asserts No Acceptance of Illegal Occupation

India Firmly Denies Chinese Claims on Ladakh, Calls It Illegal Occupation in Lok Sabha

In a firm statement, India has rejected China’s move to create new administrative counties in Ladakh, asserting that it has never accepted the illegal occupation of its territory. This was conveyed in a written reply by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh during the recent Lok Sabha session.

The minister emphasized that the Union Government consistently maintains that Ladakh, including areas under Chinese control, is an integral part of India’s sovereign territory. He stated, “India has never accepted the illegal Chinese occupation of Indian territory and will continue to oppose any unilateral attempts by China to alter the status quo.

The response comes amid reports that China has created new administrative divisions—referred to as “counties”—in regions of eastern Ladakh that have been under Chinese control since the 1962 war. India has repeatedly protested against such moves, viewing them as violations of existing bilateral agreements and international norms.

The minister also highlighted that the Government of India continues to monitor all developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and remains vigilant. Diplomatic and military channels are being used to communicate India’s concerns and resolve issues peacefully.

India reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The MEA reiterated that border disputes should be resolved through dialogue and mutual respect, without unilateral actions that can escalate tensions.

The Indian government has consistently opposed China’s infrastructure development and administrative changes in the disputed areas, calling them null and void. These actions, according to India, cannot change the legal status of the territories in question.

As tensions between India and China persist along the LAC, the Indian government’s latest response reinforces its stance on Ladakh’s territorial integrity, signaling strong diplomatic opposition to China’s activities in the region.
