M.K. Stalin Opposes Delimitation Plan, Says States Should Not Be Punished for Population Control

Tamil Nadu CM Slams Centre Over Delimitation, Calls It Disrespect to States' Development Efforts

In a strong political statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has criticized the Union Government’s proposed move for delimitation, asserting it would unfairly penalize states that have achieved success in population control and contributed significantly to the nation’s development.

Addressing concerns, M.K. Stalin said, “States that have controlled population growth and contributed to the country’s progress should not be punished in the name of delimitation. This is an act of disrespect towards the states.”

The statement highlights Tamil Nadu’s efforts in managing population growth through sustained public health and education initiatives, contributing to economic and social development. The delimitation proposal, if implemented, could reduce the political representation of such states in the Parliament, while favoring states with higher population growth.

Stalin emphasized that the federal structure of the country should not be undermined by decisions that disproportionately affect certain states. He urged the Union Government to consider the broader implications of delimitation and ensure fairness in the allocation of parliamentary seats.

Tamil Nadu, known for its progressive policies, has consistently ranked high in development indices. The CM argued that penalizing states for their responsible governance sets a dangerous precedent, which could discourage other states from taking up similar population control measures.

Political analysts believe that Stalin’s statement may find support among other southern states facing similar concerns. The issue of delimitation has sparked debate nationwide, raising questions about equity, representation, and state autonomy.

The Chief Minister called for a national dialogue to address the concerns of affected states and stressed that development-oriented governance should be rewarded, not punished.
