'Nalam Kakkum Stalin': Tamil Nadu CM Launches Statewide Health Screening Camps

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin initiates a statewide health screening campaign aimed at improving public health through early detection and preventive care.

In a move to strengthen public health infrastructure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially launched the ‘Nalam Kakkum Stalin’ statewide health screening program today. The initiative is designed to ensure early detection of diseases, improve healthcare access, and promote preventive medicine for the people of Tamil Nadu.

“The aim of this health camp is to improve the health of every citizen of Tamil Nadu, regardless of income or location,” said CM Stalin during the launch ceremony in Chennai.


Key Objectives of ‘Nalam Kakkum Stalin’

  • Provide free, comprehensive health screenings across all districts

  • Detect non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer early

  • Extend diagnostic services to rural and urban communities

  • Create a statewide digital health record system

Over 1,000 special medical teams will conduct camps in primary health centres, schools, and local bodies, targeting people of all age groups.


Scope and Reach

The program will cover:

  • All 38 districts of Tamil Nadu

  • Over 10,000 villages and urban clusters

  • Approximately 2 crore citizens in the initial phase

Mobile medical units, diagnostic vans, and telemedicine support will ensure accessibility even in remote and hilly areas.


Health Departments Mobilized

The Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Department, in coordination with the National Health Mission, is overseeing the logistics and implementation. Specialist doctors, nurses, and lab technicians have been deployed statewide.

Free tests include:

  • Blood sugar

  • Blood pressure

  • Cholesterol

  • Cancer markers (for women and elderly)

  • ECG, X-rays, and ultrasounds where necessary


CM Stalin’s Address

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the state’s commitment to universal healthcare:

“Health is the foundation of productivity and progress. Through this initiative, we are turning our vision of a healthy Tamil Nadu into reality.”

He added that health camps will be held monthly, and data will be collected to assess emerging trends and future needs.


Citizen Impact & Feedback

Initial reports suggest positive public response, with long queues at screening centers in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli.

Residents, especially senior citizens and women, welcomed the free checkups and medication. Local officials have also started awareness drives to increase participation.


Next Steps and Monitoring

A state-level control room has been established in Chennai to monitor camp data in real-time. The government plans to publish monthly health bulletins based on results gathered through this initiative.

Further, the second phase will integrate mental health screenings, eye camps, and dental care.
