Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a bold declaration in the Rajya Sabha, stating that Naxalism will be completely eliminated from India by March 21, 2026. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to national security and internal peace, Shah assured the House that the days of Left-wing extremism are numbered.
Highlighting recent success against Naxal insurgents, Shah pointed to a sharp decline in Naxal-related violence and a reduction in affected districts. The government’s strategic operations, coupled with development initiatives, have significantly weakened the Naxal movement, he noted.
Amit Shah credited the joint efforts of central and state forces in achieving breakthroughs in Naxal-prone areas. He mentioned that infrastructure development, better intelligence, and continuous anti-Naxal operations have cornered extremist groups, with many surrenders and arrests in the last few years.
In his address, Shah also underlined the government’s two-pronged strategy: development and strict law enforcement. He reiterated that March 21, 2026, is a targeted deadline by which Naxalism will be completely wiped out, restoring peace and development in all affected regions.
The announcement was met with strong reactions in the Rajya Sabha, with supporters hailing the timeline as ambitious yet achievable, while opposition members sought further details on the ground-level implementation.
Shah’s statement is seen as a major assurance to the citizens of affected states, such as Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha, that normalcy will return soon. The government is expected to intensify operations in the final phase of the anti-Naxal drive.
