In a bid to curb pollution in the Thamirabarani River, Tirunelveli Corporation has launched a ₹55 crore project. The initiative aims to improve water quality, prevent industrial waste dumping, and ensure sustainable river management.
Ward Development Fund Allocation
Mayor Ramakrishnan also announced that ₹10 lakh has been allocated to each corporation councillor for ward-level development projects. This funding will be used for infrastructure improvements and public amenities.
Focus on Water Conservation and Waste Management
The corporation’s plan includes setting up sewage treatment plants, strengthening waste management systems, and preventing industrial effluents from contaminating the river. Environmentalists have welcomed the move, calling it a crucial step toward restoring Thamirabarani’s ecosystem.
Authorities Pledge Strict Pollution Control
Officials have assured strict monitoring to prevent further pollution. Public awareness campaigns and community participation will also be encouraged to maintain long-term water conservation.
