Prime Minister Narendra Modi Marks a Decade of Transformative Impact of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana

New Delhi, April 3, 2025Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), describing the scheme as a transformational initiative that empowered millions of Indians and helped bring countless entrepreneurial dreams to life.

“Turning Dreams Into Reality”

Taking to social media, PM Modi reflected on the journey of the scheme, saying, “Over the last 10 years, the Mudra Yojana has turned several dreams into reality. It has opened doors of opportunity for countless youth, women, and micro-entrepreneurs.”

What is the Mudra Yojana?

Launched on April 8, 2015, the Mudra scheme provides collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 lakh to micro and small businesses. The loans are categorized under three heads: Shishu (up to ₹50,000), Kishore (₹50,000–₹5 lakh), and Tarun (₹5–₹10 lakh).

Empowering the Marginalized

The Prime Minister emphasized how the scheme has significantly benefited women entrepreneurs, SC/ST/OBC communities, and those in rural and semi-urban areas. According to government data, over 80% of Mudra beneficiaries are women, and a large share belong to backward and marginalized sections.

Economic Boost and Job Creation

The scheme has played a crucial role in job creation, promoting self-employment, and boosting the MSME sector—a vital engine of India’s economic growth. With over ₹25 lakh crore disbursed in loans since inception, Mudra Yojana is now a key pillar in India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

PM Modi’s Vision Forward

PM Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to continuing support for grassroots entrepreneurship, highlighting that Mudra Yojana will remain central to India’s development strategy. “Our focus is on empowering citizens to become job creators, not just job seekers,” he stated.
