PM Modi Inaugurates Delhi Section of ‘Namo Bharat Corridor’ in Major Infrastructure Push

New Delhi, January 5, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Delhi section of the much-anticipated Namo Bharat Corridor, marking a significant milestone in India’s urban transport infrastructure. The newly operational 13-kilometer stretch connects Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad, with six kilometers running underground and featuring the prominent Anand Vihar station.

This inauguration extends the operational reach of the Namo Bharat Corridor, which already had a 17-kilometer priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot launched last October. Passenger services on the Delhi section will commence at 5 PM today, with trains running every 15 minutes.

Key Highlights

Enhanced Connectivity: The corridor now connects Delhi to Meerut, reducing travel time by one-third. Commuters can travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in just 40 minutes.

Operational Stretch: The corridor’s operational length increases to 55 kilometers, featuring 11 stations, including nine on the earlier Sahibabad-Meerut South route.

Anand Vihar Station: A state-of-the-art underground station at Anand Vihar offers a direct 35-minute ride to Meerut South. Special bridges over the Ghazipur drain facilitate vehicle and pedestrian movement.

New Ashok Nagar Station: The first elevated Namo Bharat station in the Delhi section stands 20 meters above ground, intersecting the metro network.

Passenger Amenities

Fares: Tickets from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South are priced at ₹150 for standard coaches and ₹225 for premium coaches.

Commercial Development: A commercial center at the New Ashok Nagar station is planned to enhance commuter convenience and generate additional revenue.

Strategic Importance

The Namo Bharat Corridor not only shortens travel time but also integrates advanced urban transport solutions, setting new standards in regional rapid transit systems. With this development, the Anand Vihar underground station becomes a pivotal hub, boosting connectivity and easing congestion.

PM Modi’s ride on the Namo Bharat train from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar station symbolized the project’s significance. He interacted with schoolchildren during the journey, highlighting the project’s vision of modern, inclusive urban mobility.

This addition is a step forward in India’s vision of efficient urban infrastructure and reinforces the government’s commitment to sustainable and smart transportation solutions.
