Rahul Gandhi, CM Stalin Slam BJP Over Voter Deletions During ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar

Alleging 65 lakh voters deleted in Bihar, opposition leaders accuse BJP of undermining democracy and warn of broader threats to people’s rights.

Rahul Gandhi Raises Strong Allegations in Bihar

Speaking at the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ rally in Sitamarhi, Bihar, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that the BJP-led government has turned the Election Commission of India (ECI) into a “puppet.”

He claimed that 65 lakh voters in Bihar have been removed from the electoral rolls, calling it a “murder of democracy.” Gandhi said that such actions are part of a larger conspiracy to prevent citizens from exercising their right to vote.

“If the election is conducted fairly & correctly, the BJP alliance will lose, so a conspiracy is being hatched to prevent the public from voting. They have deleted 65 lakh votes in Bihar,” Gandhi declared.

CM Stalin Echoes Concerns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin, who joined Gandhi at the event, also criticized the ruling BJP alliance. He said the deletion of voters undermines India’s democratic foundations and called for vigilance against attempts to manipulate the electoral process.

Stalin stressed that protecting the right to vote is the foundation of democracy, and alleged that the BJP is attempting to centralize power by weakening institutions.

Warning of Wider Threats

Rahul Gandhi went further, warning that the ruling dispensation will not stop at voter list manipulation. He claimed that the BJP could eventually target people’s ration cards, land, and property, handing control to big corporate houses such as Adani and Ambani.

“They will take away your ration card, your land, your property, and everything will go to Adani–Ambani,” Gandhi told the gathering.

Part of Opposition Campaign

The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, launched by the Congress and supported by opposition allies, is aimed at highlighting alleged threats to electoral transparency. Bihar has become a central stage in this campaign, with allegations that mass deletions of voters could impact the state’s political balance.

The Yatra seeks to mobilize public opinion against what opposition leaders describe as erosion of democratic institutions under BJP rule.

BJP Yet to Respond

As of now, the BJP has not issued an official response to the claims made by Rahul Gandhi and M.K. Stalin. Election Commission authorities are also yet to comment on the specific allegation of 65 lakh voter deletions in Bihar.

Analysts note that the figure, if accurate, represents a significant portion of the electorate, and any official clarification will be critical in shaping public discourse ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and the 2026 General Elections.

Conclusion

The Sitamarhi rally has sharpened the opposition’s campaign narrative around democratic rights and institutional independence. With both Rahul Gandhi and M.K. Stalin raising strong allegations, the issue of electoral transparency is likely to remain a flashpoint in upcoming political battles.
