Chennai – In a festive gesture ahead of the Pongal celebrations, the Tamil Nadu government announced a special bonus for C and D group employees, teachers, and pensioners on Thursday. The decision, aimed at providing financial relief and appreciation to government workers, comes as part of the state’s efforts to ensure that employees are supported during the holiday season.
According to an official release from the state government, all C and D group employees will receive an ad hoc bonus with a ceiling of Rs 3,000. This move is expected to benefit a significant number of workers in lower-level government positions, as the state gears up for the harvest festival.
In addition to the regular ad hoc bonus, the government also extended a special bonus of Rs 1,000 to employees who are on consolidated pay and special scale of pay. This bonus will also apply to full-time and part-time employees who have worked for a minimum of 240 days during the last fiscal year and are paid from contingencies at fixed monthly rates.
The announcement will also benefit pensioners, who are set to receive the same ad hoc bonus as the employees. This provision aims to offer financial support to retired government workers who depend on their pensions for daily expenses.
The Tamil Nadu government’s decision to offer a Pongal bonus is in line with its ongoing commitment to support its workforce, especially the lower-income groups. The bonus is expected to bring relief to government employees, teachers, and pensioners, who can use the additional funds to celebrate the Pongal festival, which is one of the most significant cultural events in the state.
The bonus is expected to be distributed before the Pongal festival, giving employees and pensioners the opportunity to benefit from the additional income during the celebratory period. This initiative is also seen as a step toward boosting morale and motivating the workforce, especially in the post-pandemic economy.
The move has been welcomed by various unions and employees’ associations, with many expressing appreciation for the government’s timely decision to offer the bonus. It is seen as a gesture of goodwill and recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by government employees in various sectors.
This year’s Pongal bonus will certainly add a touch of joy to the celebrations for many families in Tamil Nadu, making the festival even more special.
