The Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has announced that children and pregnant women will not be permitted at its upcoming 2nd State Conference, scheduled to take place in Chennai this weekend. The restriction is being implemented as a precautionary safety measure.
TVK’s organizing committee cited concerns over large crowds, heat, and logistical challenges that may pose health risks to vulnerable attendees.
The event, expected to draw thousands of party supporters, will be addressed by TVK leader Vijay, along with other senior functionaries. Organizers emphasized that the policy has been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the program.
Party spokespersons stated that adequate facilities, including drinking water, first-aid, and crowd management, have been arranged, but noted that large political gatherings are not ideal environments for children and pregnant women due to long durations and exposure to extreme weather.
Security arrangements have also been intensified, with city police deploying additional personnel for traffic control and crowd safety.
The Health Department has reportedly been informed and emergency medical teams will remain on standby at the venue, located in the city outskirts.
This is the second major conference organized by TVK since its formation, and is widely seen as a political show of strength ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
Supporters from across districts are expected to arrive in organized convoys, and traffic diversions are likely in key areas surrounding the venue.
Public notices have been issued on TVK’s official channels and social media platforms, requesting compliance with the restriction. Party leaders also encouraged families to watch the event through live broadcast, which will be available online.
Legal experts say the party is within its rights to restrict access to attendees based on logistical and health-related grounds, provided the decision is communicated clearly and implemented fairly.
Citizens and medical professionals welcomed the advisory, with some calling it a “responsible move” in the context of past crowd-related incidents at political events across India.
The TVK conference will focus on key state-level issues including youth empowerment, employment, education reform, and anti-corruption measures.
